International Literacy Day is celebrated annually on September 8. This year’s theme as given by the UNESCO is “Literacy and Sustainable Societies” to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. We, at Candor, celebrated this day by organizing a poster competition for Grade 6 to 12 students along with a ‘book drive’ initiated by the Student Council. The walls of the corridor came alive with colorful posters speaking to each and everyone walking by about the importance of education for progress and development. Believing that it is better to ‘donate’ than ‘accumulate’, the Student Council has been encouraging students to give away old books by organizing a book drive beginning today until September 16, 2015. These books will be given to children studying in the local government school with the hope of bringing a smile on their face.
